(solved) Page: No content showing.
« on: December 17, 2013, 03:34:36 am »
Hi everyone.  I am new here and to all of this but trying to work my way around without getting in everyones way.  Firstly I'd like to say thanks for having this package available, I know there will be learning curves, but there is in just about all aspects of ones life.

I have OSClass installed through my web provider and can get into the control panel etc I have the std bender theme installed which I am looking at converting to a Business listing directory.  I haven't been able to find a premade theme/plugin for this so I am guessing I will have to convert/modify the existing template.

I have run into a couple of issues as far as getting it to look and run how I would like it, but that is something I will have to learn to do, but the one big issue that is frustrating me at the moment is creating a static page (using the page section).  None of the editing buttons don't work to set any of the text values in the text box (font, headings etc) and in addition to that, anything that is typed in the box and then saved (page created), when I click on the link it brings up the static page with the title but none of the content I have typed in is shown.

Ideas on at least getting the text box/editing area to work?

Thanks in advance.

Jay

The built in editor that shows up when I click the 'add new page' button or the + button on the top right of the 'page' page.

It looks like it is a similar problem to this post http://forums.osclass.org/bender/pges-with-content-are-blank-when-viewing-the-site/

Tried both the modern and bender themes...same issue.

Edit added:  I should also mention that the version I am using is the one installed on my webhosting package via installtron (I think that's what it is called...first time I have tried using it).

Hi everyone.  I know it is considered bad form to reply to your own post but I have found a work around to my problem which may save others some grief.

Classic newby mistake in relation to almost anything developmental....I was using 'explorer' as my browser when accessing trying to complete my task.  As the clock is ticking close to midnight here (Australia) I had an A-HA moment as my coffee was brewing and decided to open firefox instead and access my control panel to create and edit from the 'pages' menu and low and behold it works as it should.

So that is the fix to my problem.  Explorer bad....Firefox good ....go figure  :-X

Thanks to all those who had a look and started searching for a solution for me

On a sidenote.....now that my OSclass has updated to the latest version, when I go to check out plug ins and click 'view more' I get the red strip saying it isnt compatible with my version (3.3.2)...is this going to be a problem ?

It a weird issue I have been struggling with for several days.

I even unstalled and reinstalled OSclass in my Installatron application but it kept doing it.

My desktop has win7, the laptop win8, both had the same issues through explorer.  I don't have FF installed on my laptop so unable to see if that has made a difference there when manipulating settings in the control panel but for what ever reason the text editor in the pages section works properly via FF but not through my IE browsers.  I don't know the reasoning behind it just passing it on as I have read that some others have had issues with maintaining text/content in the pages section as well.

Thanks Firetool.

I just checked the IE browser versions on my 2 systems.  The desktop that was having issues is IE 10.  I have just done a test on the laptop which uses IE11 and it seems I am able to use the editor as it should be used so indeed it seems to be an issue with IE10.  Will update my browser to IE11 on the desktop and report back further.

Okay, should be my final post on this issue.

Updating my desktop from IE10 to IE11 has fixed my editing issues of the 'Pages' option and the text editor in this menu is working and saving the content properly.

I suspect that a couple of other issues I was having working around the control panel may have also been affected by incompatibilities between the OSclass control panel and IE10.

I have a plugins question (but still related to 3.3x).  Are the original plugins listed in the market compatible with the latest 3.3.2 OsClass as a warning pops up saying it is not compatible with this version (all plugins in the market say this). Are they actually not compatible or is there a script they are checking to see which version I am running and posting the warning out of courtesy as my version isn't in its list?

I wonder if you had IE compatibility turned Off....
This stupid IE function has been a real pain since they came up with it.
Wouldn't an IE user want all pages to render correct or "compatible"....

I know this is off topic but Firefox is loaded with error checking that it can cause (OR SHOW) issues and cause a site to slow load and even prevent a site from loading but in the end this is good because it forces all to have better sites but that damn IE is so stupid it don't even know why and can't tell the user anything. Just leaves the user lost and confused.
