My upgrade has been a disaster at this point. My worry is that I will not be able to restore, but I do have a copy of the original database. My question is: if i do a fresh install and configure the database to the new install and if all the files are where they were to begin with, will the install work?

Hi lanister,

Could you explain why your upgrade was a disaster? From which version were you trying to update?
If you have a copy of the original DB don't worry (also don't delete it!) we'll help you recover it and have an upgraded installation of OSClass.

We need a little more information, as the state of the upgrade process, what failed,...

Thanks

so i upgraded from 2.37 (through the link in the admin panel). the upgrade hung meaning the "upgrading your osclass installation (this could take a while)" notification stayed for a while - over 30 minutes. i then went in through the admin section and attempted to upgrade with the same result. i then attempted to restore it to the previous version, but i'm unable to restore to my previous version and i think i'm coming to the limits of my abilities. i'd be happy to pay an expert for some support if we can't figure this out - and i do think this can be solved, but i'm running out if ideas. does this help to answer my question? if not, please let me know what else you would like to know to help. THANK YOU.

i'm not sure i'd upgrade from 2.3.7 to 2.4 again - if you do, make sure you are backed up. i left part of it to my host and that was a terrible idea. make sure you turn off permalinks if you install from the admin and install directly on the server if possible. i ran into an error about 90% and had to ended up hitting install twice more. this caused database errors that i had to clean up - all solveable but it took a while to correct and support is slow given the fact that this is a new release. i still have not figured out completely how to remove redundancies with locations. does anybody know how to remove redundancies in regions? for example if i have a listing in California, and the classified lister wants to enter 'California' there are two fields that appear in auto text as 'California'.

Location stats was buggy on my last install and i'm afraid to 'calculate location stats' because thats where my troubles began on the old install. Also, i've only added one country at this point as i am concerned this may have been part of the problem.

Now that it is installed and everything is basically working like it was i'm happy, but the time it took to get here was not easy but if you are confident in your backups and ability, you should be okay.

You can manage your countries, regions and cities in Settings > Locations (in the oc-admin panel). Maybe you can take a look there and see if there're duplicated or it's some error. Moreover, you shouldn't be worried about recalculating the location stats because it only affects t_city_stats, t_region_stats and t_country_stats, it shouldn't affect the rest of OSClass.

Thanks Juan - I've removed all countries in admin. I do understand how to manage the regions in admin. The only country added at this point is United States and when i enter in a region like california it auto populates with two selections for california. Duplicate auto-fills is what i am experiencing.
