Modern Theme
« on: August 30, 2013, 09:49:20 pm »
One of the features that I like about this theme was the widgets, where I was able to post the important page links at the top of the page. (I can't seem to do that with bender_black) although I love that theme otherwise.

I also noted in another thread this theme was replaced by bender as the default theme. I also noted its not listed as a theme one can download anymore.

My question then is as follows, is there a security issue with a theme that is not being updated (like this one)?

I was asking this because my OC Class website was destroyed by a Trojan attack, and I do not want to risk it by having security vulnerabilities.

@Olfart

I think theme has no impact on security of script standalone. Modern theme is not available for download anymore but I really do not know why, many people still want it so I attached latest version of this theme to my post.

My guess is that its an issue regarding widgets, the bender theme has widgets, but it does not inject them into a page.

can you PM me details about the attack?, how, what and what part
this is a major concern with Any script, we have a file monitor plugin that will alert you if any files are changed, added so you can hopefully get a head start on crippling the hack
plus there is a thread on securing admin here that is a Great idea

Sorry not to get back to you sooner, I highly suspect the problem came from the shared server on Hostmonster, as I found out from Google they had over 7000 infected sites, yet they told me to my face it was security vulnerabilities on my website. (It just had the original files with original default theme in the previous OS Class version)

My long term solution is to move my account off their server and change to a better webhost.

The problem was they modified js files to spread the Trojans.

I would love to have that plugin you referred to, I know do regular full backups. It was odd because the website was barely 2 weeks online and I lost all new members and posts because I did not have enough experience to separate the bad files from the good ones. So I ended up doing a clean new install.

Thanks for your concern on this, please let me know where I can get that plugin that let's you know if files were changed.

I have been using the modern theme on my classifieds site which I believe has a standard and workable look as well as feel, I was just wondering whether there are any open-sourced templates for osclass like wordpress, I have an open-source (mystique) theme for my blog site: http://tuvuti.com which is supported by many users online, is there any open-sourced theme for osclass as well?

All Osclass themes are open source. Those that are asking a fee for an Osclass theme are selling THEIR portion of the modified code but the core theme is open source.
