Limited access. Members only, invited by existing members. (feature suggestion)

How about an option where classified site is private (posting by members only) and new members can only join by being invited by existing members? This would be very useful for building a community of like-minded people, clubs, organizations, singles, etc. Also, an excellent way to cut down on junk content and spam submission. Any thoughts? Does something like this exist as a plugin or feature already that I have missed? Thanks.

I guess you are right. Anything forbidden is always more desirable . I was thinking that in order for a new member to register, they would first have to receive an invitation email (with validation link) from an existing member.  Otherwise, they would not be able to register on the site at all.
