New version
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:02:31 am »
Hi
Iv been using many different scripts in the past and by that I could say I have some experience developing/using this type ofscripts. Many developers make misstake to all the time try ty make new version with every little change. Its time consuming both for the developer and the costumer, especially thoose who make alterations to their scripts. My recomendations is to try to keep what version you are developing and make more adons and plugin. Whith this I dont say script dont need to be developed. It has to keep up with the competition but dont bury your self and everyone else in work constantly upgrading version. Keep the core, make some changes and more of plugins.

Keep up the good work guys  ;)

I forget
Also I suggest to make some premium plugins, templates etc that cost money, not much but little to cover the costs, that is a way to  hurry up the developing process.

Hi irishrage,

You're right, but there's something to take in care:

OSClass is not as mature as we want, we created a bunch of hooks and functions, but sometimes we found out that we need "something" more. The main reason for 2.2 is that the paypal plugins needs some changes on the core of OSClass. Paypal plugin is "needed" by the community, so we make a small release, focused on it.

With time, this is less and less needed, and we'll be able to make plugins without the need of modifying the core

I (personally) don't know very well how to make premium plugins (since with PHP you've the source also, unless something like zend guard is used). And for templates, well, I'm not a designer, I didn't even make the theme for my own site. I will be glad to hear some suggestions about it.

I agree with you, it's better not too much releases. However, as @_Conejo said, I hope in the near feature we'll make less big releases  and more plugins.

Hi cms2008

There will be few changes on front-end side, most of the changes from 2.1 to 2.2 are on the backend and inner works of OSClass. So you could start building your site right now with OSClass 2.1 version and later automatically upgrade to 2.2 when we release it.

Thanks

We don't know and we can not make an stimation. It would be soon, but there's a lot of work to be done ( http://issues.osclass.org/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?reset=true&mode=hide&jqlQuery=project+%3D+OSCLASS+AND+resolution+%3D+Unresolved+AND+affectedVersion+%3D+%222.2%22 )
