[TUTORIAL] Ad Importer Spreadsheet
« on: December 06, 2014, 03:38:05 pm »
Below, find an Importer.xlsx & Schema.xsd to help speed-up ad importing.

It is very easy to use.

1. Go to Sheet 2, and in cell K2, change your default language - mine is en_US
2. Date and time is automatic, showing the time right now.
3. Still in K2, add your new listings, filling in each row.

4. In Excel, to export XML, you must enable the Developer Tab. Go to > File > Options > Customise Ribbon.
5. In there, on the right-hand side window, make sure DEVELOPER is ticked. You only need to do it once. Press OK.

6. Back inside the spreadsheet, select the Developer Tab, and then choose Export

That's it! Your file is ready...almost.

IMPORTANT

For a successful import, always check your file beforehand. XML is very strict and it will fail if the smallest thing is wrong. For example, in case you have words like don't, it sometimes confuses the ' for a tag attribute. Change it to do not. There are some other issues but you should play and you will learn what not to do!!

NOTE: I have not included the IMAGE tag on purpose. When importing multiple ads, some with images and others without images, Ad Importer plugin does not like the tag to be empty and it rejects the listing. You can easily add the tag manually or modify the schema/spreadsheet to include this tag. Likewise, if you have custom fields, add them, and be sure to name the tags correctly.

PRICE: Leave it blank to get the CONTACT SELLER result in your posting. Put a 0 if you want to show the price as FREE when it is published.

Dragging New Blue Rows on XML sheet
See picture - On XML sheet, select the tiny blue thing under the DateTime column and drag it down to add extra rows for export.

Have fun and please ask any questions.

I want to try it but I am a little afraid of doing it wrong. I live in Sweden, do you have any idea what code to use in CountryID? Should i write Sweden or Sverige (swedish word) in country?

Hello,

You dont perhaps have an example with an Image Tag.

Or can you perhaps tell me how do you insert a tag, into the xml file.
