Custom Fields - Interval Date Selection - Not Totally Working

I added a custom field that is applied to most of my categories.
Creating the custom field - OK - screenshot1
Naming the custom field - OK
Making custom field mandatory - OK
Assigning the custom field to specific categories - OK
Creating identifier name - OK
Ticking to allow searches - OK
Saving custom field - OK
Custom field shows up in listing - OK - screenshot2
Date picker available - OK - screenshot 3
Dates picked and fields populated - screenshot 4
Listing saved and then get an error message that states dates are required and the date fields are now empty.
I have reloaded files and deleted and created the custom field again with same results.
Anybody have any knowledge or suggestions that would actually help me correct this issue?

don't make it required    put the asterisk on it anyway

or make sure your validator includes it

Does anyone know how I can change my date custom field in a way so that a user can select for example May 3, 1988 without having to scroll through hundreds of months because that takes forever?
