there are many topics related to gmail server settings not working around, so I don't know how those setings work. All I know is that if you leave them as they are, all is working ok with the host mail settins.
I think for sendmail you don't need any smtp details
So can we conclude there is another way osclass sends it mails if you don't fill the SMTP mail settings in the admin, right ?It uses then the hoster sendmail function where no details are needed at all. (at my server)

In some cases locahost is free to use without any credentials, in other more secure hosting (or if the mail server is not in the same box), you must authenticate.
Only if Custom Server and localhost is used. The other you say (you put crap in settings and still works) can't happen. Also gmail is not recomended, we have talked about that in these forums several times. Not sure why Osclass still has that option.
Trust me, it works.I tried to disable the email function by renaming the gmail smtp server to smtp.gmail.con and that works just fine. The emails are still sent, but not through gmail I guess
No i do not trust you (what you say that is), sorry.Anyway, this is getting a hairy topic, good luck with your site.
