PHP 7 and Osclass
« on: October 07, 2015, 08:05:08 pm »
I just got an update in my Cpanel and now i'm able to switch my plan to PHP 7 RC3 or RC4. For testing purposes of cource since PHP 7 is not yet released.

Still this is very usefull, because i will be able to see what works and what not with Osclass and my Wordpress.

I will backup today and i will switch to PHP 7 for a while.

More details  ... when i have them ... the next days.

I'm back to php 5.6 now.

Since there is no interest in this thread from anyone, OSclass team included, i will not continue it.

But i wanted to write this: in Wordpress community there are a lot of threads about PHP 7 compatibility. Core and Plugins.

What a huge difference.

WP is 1000 more popular, with army of developers working on it,  you should know that. I do appreciate your efforts
Aficionado, if it means something.

The above warnings are easy to fix and those are translation dependances, not core related. I'm shure it will be fixed soon.

Almost all developers i'm using their plugins for WP (usually one-man-show) have posted some information about their plugins and PHP 7. So did Wordpress, Magento, Symphony, you name it.

I haven't seen a single word for Osclass. And PHP 7 is one month away from official release. Also i wonder if Osclass is still developed ?

I think that is higly individual, some devs never replied to me, so it is hard to draw conclusions.

And about last question, I think it sure is, no reason not to.

... you know it has been a very long time for a release. I mean a release that is not bug-fixing or something little here-and-there.

I'm happy that you have apparently some inside information about it, since the rest of us have absolutely no idea where Osclass is going.

And once more, ... I'm getting tired of this. but it's fine.

I could be on the forums talking about PHP7, or I could be working to fix any incompatibilities that may arise (very very few from our tests). You can not compra us to Wordpress, there's a huge difference in numbers of core developers, contributors, plugins/themes developers... a few orders of magnitude higher.

As far as we know, there are no known issues with PHP 7. Deprecated warning messages are fixed in 3.5.8

Conejo,

I see that version was bumped to 3.5.9, but @ download/auto-upgrade server it is still at 3.5.8 (but with fixed typo) ?

A few people downloaded 3.5.8 with the typo, I fixed the error, included it in the zip file and bump the version but will wait till tomorrow to see if there's anything else that we could include in 3.5.9, so people with the typo will get fixed. People who download the "fixed" 3.5.8, will upgrade too, but no changes will happens, only the version (unless we found something else to fix).

Thanks for explanation, I was confused for a moment since the typo file was fixed, and wasn't sure what was going on.

PHP 7 RC 6 was released today. The last RC as per their roadmap. Most probably the next release will be an official release of PHP 7 at 12 of November, if all goes well.

https://secure.php.net/archive/2015.php#id2015-10-29-1

I had last week end the opportunity to use my live hosting plan under PHP 7 RC5 for a few a hours and all went well, i saw no errors or anything strange, apart from the fact that Imagick lib is missing from PHP 7 RCs.
