Hi

When trying to first install osclass I am getting;

 Osclass » Error

Osclass database server is not available. Need more help?

I have created a database and tried changing the config-sample.php to my database details, but when I change those details it doesn't even let me install.

Not sure if it is my host provider, I use Netfirms.

Please could someone help me figure this out.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Are you changing the file /config-sample.php?

You should modify the file /config.php with your db settings.

Of cource not. Why you give suggestions that are not what a new user should do ? People are searching the forums, they will read your suggestions and they will fail. Last time you posted that Osclass doesn't work with php 5.2 and 5.3.

Why modify config.php ? From where did you get that information ? No need to modify anything. If he has permission problems, then better fix them.

Why not just FOLLOW the instructions on new installations ?

So you create the db and the user, you give the user full right (FULL) ?

You know the address of your DB ? You put it on the install page ?

At what exact step you get that error ? Not at first i suppose.

I have changed the config.php to my current database settings and I still get the same message except once I've changed the config.php there is no button to install.

However, I have realized now looking, that the server name which I'm guessing is the database host name seems invalid. I had not created a Mysql database before this, so I have not noticed this before. I will contact Netfirms and see if they can sort this out, and then see if the installation will run smoothly

YOU DO NOT NEED to modify anything prior to installing. The installation shall do it, all of it if you give the right answers to the fields.

You may need to modify the config.php after an installation, if you change something.

blablabla...

You were obviously in a bad mood.

2. Yes PHP 5.2 DID NOT WORK IN MY CASE! All may not have the same settings on the server as you???
3. The guy wrote i am "changing the config-sample.php"

Maybe it's time to sleep? and tomorrow be in a little better mood, than spreading your negative energy.

There are no "server settings as mine" there are just PROPER SERVER SETTINGS.

And instead of personal comments and jokes, i would suggest to offer your help to newbies if you know what you are talking about. If you do not know, just sit back and let others that do know. You may learn something also.

Osclass forums are ALREADY full of people that use poor hosting companies and full of people that do not have a clue what they do. And instead of following the docs posted at Osclass website and instead of searching, they get lost. Trying to help them, we have people like you that just reply with wrong information, making things harder for newbies. That makes a bad impression of Osclass to them, because they believe Osclass is to blaim.

Forum means a public meeting or assembly for open discussion.
We learn when you talk and discuss things with each other.

Enough discussed. you seem to be committed to your opinions and I do not agree.
