Unable To Activate Theme
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:05:12 pm »
I installed 3.3.2 last week and really like the software, however I am unable to activate any themes. I have read thoroughly through the forums and tried all the suggestions, (ie. installing via FTP, deleting theme directories and files and re-uploading, changing permissions, manually changing the database field, etc...) When I try to activate a theme in the admin panel it says, "Theme activated correctly" in the green notice block. However no screenshot image appears in 'Current Theme' block and of course the theme doesn't change on the website. I tried a number of different themes too. They all appear in the 'Available Themes' block but do not activate.

I also tried two other hosting providers and both gave me the exact same results. All three hosting providers were running Cpanel, two with Apache and one with Litespeed. One of the hosts had Softalicous so I installed OSClass via this installer. The other two I manually uploaded through FTP and did a browser install. One of the three hosting providers was Hostgator and it was running a recent version of Cpanel with Centos 6.5 and Cpanel 11.36.2.

I would be willing to use the default bender theme but when I modify any of the files in the theme directory it has no effect on the live site. I can modify the files in the gui directory and achieve the some of the modifications I desire but this will likely be problematic during upgrades.

I am totally stumped at this point and ready to ditch. Hopefully someone has found a solution to this issue  ;D
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

have you cleared your browser cookies/history
The quickest way is to hold the ctrl key and press F5 twice this helps with css issues, and sometime updates

LOL... I can't believe it!! I did in fact clear my cache/history/cookies in Firefox but it has been buggy lately and isn't clearing things out properly (I forgot about this issue). Never thought to try the admin panel in another browser though. I opened up Opera, logged into the admin and everything works great now!!
Thank you @aide2001 - you at the very least, sent me in the right direction ;D

I have the same exact problem.  None of any themes would work.  Only the default.

I haven't tried any of the links above, but I tried to install os-class manually.  Only then that it worked properly.  Installing software through softaculous seems to produce error.  Similar error it produced when I used it to install my drupal projects.

Hi all, had the same issue today and I can confirm that clearing history and cache works to solve the problem.

Installed latest version... used admin to upload and install theme. On activation blank space and theme remains as default even when i deleted both themes.

Re installed latest version installed new theme and activated ... same problem

Switched to chrome and see all working fine
switched to explorer and all working fine

back to firefox and not working....

Cleared cache AND history in firefox. reloaded with F5 and the problem solved...

I would be interested to hear why this happens even though the workaround is there and easy enough to implement,,,

Regards

i have a many websites that use opencart for ecommerce and everytime i do an update it always suggest this is done (i.e clear browser history, clear cookies and ctrl +F5 twice)
So maybe this needs to be on the install page after its gone through??
