« on: August 29, 2013, 02:05:57 pm »

Hi Aficionado,

I post some ads for certain companies on CL and this feature is a must have.

So, I will take a look and see what I can come up with.

Let's hope other plugin developers will chime in.

I was thinking of doing this. Maybe next week I could start on it.
Any special ideas David?

Hi Gilden,

very nice from you! I have couple of ideas:

1) User must not be able to re-publish (extend) the ad before the expiration date&time has been reached. This is in order to avoid constant daily renewals (system abuse) and uneccessery 'spamming'.

2) If not too complicated, renewed ad should be counted as a new published ad (value added to the total number of already published ads and than that number substracted from total amount of allowed ads per, say, month) (edit: this step is redundant). I hope this will not affect this plugin, say if in a future Osclass gets an update with options for basic and premium users (different amount of ads per month to avoid spamming/flooding the ads sections).

Thanks!

I would like to add that the ADMIN should also be able to REPOST an ad (or multiple ads) somehow.

And a decision should be made if a Reposted ad is NEW or Reposted.

@dev101: I agree with you on item 1), but I don't think it makes sense to count the republished item as new. You can use the published date, modified date and expiration date for your item, and you can then re-order in the way that suits your needs.

Gilden, you might have a point there, I just don't wish spammers abusing the generous system (something usually seen on popular sites).

I don't think this will help spammers. I was thinking of making the item's date "extendable" as soon as the email is sent, or a few days before, or even only after it expires.

Hi Gilden,

My thoughts:

The opportunity to repost an ad is not presented until the ad has moved to the second page. (Reposted on top)

Some members do not use pagination so in their case you would need to count how far the ad is down the list.

Of course the member could charge a premium for this but then it becomes more complicated.

Why not stick by a date?
The ad could be reposted when it is in the final days of the "countdown".

An example: the ad is posted for 60 days.
A warning is sent to the user 5 days before that deadline (which means after 55 days of publication).
During those 5 days, the user can extend the expiration date, but the ad is still shown.
After the 5 days, the ad will not be shown anymore.

I thought about that because all those are configurable in the admin panel.
Am I missing something or overlooking some aspect?

@ mmcsus

How to scientificly define a 'second page' interval ? Different admins will have different pagination settings, which again heavily rely on new ad frequency.

Date is way to go.

Hi all,

I was asked by the member "Gilden" what I thought.

So I expressed my thoughts.

My thoughts were only in passing and not something I gave a lot of thought too.

I do much research on our subject and I do not take it lightly.

If you would like to see a classified site that makes more money than you could ever dream of see the following.

No, this is not an Osclass site but may give members some ideas.

They give one free ad then charge there after.

They are very well known by millions of people in South East Texas.

Just take a look --> southeasttexas.com
